Apple’s Kindness to Early Adopters
Posted on January 15th, 2008 in Apple, Apple Special Event, Google, Multi-Touch, firmware, iPhone, iPod Touch |
Recently Apple has not been so nice to all of their early adapters and see them as just another way to make a few bucks. This started at the “Beat Goes On” Keynote in late 2007. Here they announced the $200 dollar price drop for the iPhone and left many people unhappy.

This continued at Macworld 2008 with the announcement of iPhone apps on the iPod Touch. The apps will of course be preinstalled BUT all of the people who had been there from the start will be slapped with a $20 fee to install the apps for themselves.
Many people are hoping that Apple Inc. will stop this idea of business and carry on to be one of best in customer service. Only time will tell to see if they will really carry on with this method.

what are the chances that Mr. Jobs will retract the $20 fee?
Bought a Ipod/Touch last month and really like it - but now, and now there is a new version of the operating system - so I went to the page; selected “PayPal” since I do not like using Credit-cards and it asks for a Credit-card again
I have funds in my PayPal account, why can’t I use them ?
Im sorry, i dont know if its just me, but the update is crap.
I opened google and tried to make a webclip out of it and it just doesn’t work. I also tried to edit my home screen and I cant. What the hell?!
Plus, having to pay 20$ for an update is ridiculous.
Yeah the extra $20 is hogwash. Not worth it in my opinion.
@ daniel
You need to pay to add webclips and edit homescreen.
Jailbreak it don’t pay 20 dollars for the update
I’m going to stay hacked. I have enjoyed these apps and more for months now. I still can’t understand just wtf apple is thinking here. This is the first and last first gen product I purchase from apple if this is how it’s going to be. Merry X-Mas touch users! now give us another $20……..?
As a current Windows Mobile users, I don’t have an issue with paying $20 for the upgrade. I purchase apps for my Windows Mobile phone all the time.
Could this been a free upgrade? Yes, but I think they knew that only a few of us who haven’t hacked our iPod touch will want these apps anyway.
If you have the money, buy it …
it is so f*cking cool
I’m typing this on my updated IPod Touch so I’ll make this short
All you guys who purchased this device as it was before the update
did’nt feel you were getting ripped off at the time so why cry when you
are offered the chance to improve your device??!!
stop being Mac P-ssies
But the point is that Apple is great at costumer service and this is not a good example!
Michael M - You don’t know what you’re talking about. Some of us weren’t happy from the early days of the touch and made this known publicly and directly to Apple. So then Apple follows up with this insult. Sure its a nice device and all but Apple is making a strong effort to keep it from being as good as it can be. Even Steve Jobs himself describes this model as ‘training wheels for the iPhone’. Glad you’re happy with your purchase of the update. Thanks for rewarding Apple’s bad behavior.
Well Apple has been good to me up in till this point. I Hope they are happy. I was not going to jail brake my ipod, because i thought that i would respect apples wishes. Well apple can take it up the rear end, because i am jail braking my ipod as we speak. Hope there happy.
