apple ipod touchThis article is dedicated to telling you everything there is to know about the new iPod Touch so far. Lets start with the size, or lack thereof, of this thing. The iPod Touch will be 4.3×2.4 inches and only 8mm or .31 inches thick! It won’t weight you down either, not at 4.2 ounces.

Next, a list of what Apple says will be in the box. There will obviously be the iPod Touch, then it’s the basics for an iPod: the earphones, USB 2.0 cable, dock adapter, polishing cloth, and quick start guide They have also added something new, a stand.

The iPod Touch will come in 8 and 16 gigabyte capacities which means up to 1750 or 3500 songs and 10 or 20 thousand pictures, or if you are more of a video person you can fit 10 or 20 hours of video or any combination thereof. The new iPod Touch will also be able to act as a USB flash drive which should be nifty for students or business people looking for a multifunctional device that they can also save their work to.

The display is the same as the iPhone with a 3.5 inch widescreen multi-touch screen displaying at 480×320 pixels with 163ppi. On this screen there are two formats that you can watch, either MPEG-4 or H.264 using the .m4v, .mp4, or .mov file extensions. Video playback will last for up to 5 hours.

The audio is a whole other story; first, the frequency response is 20Hz to 20kHz. From there a long list of formats is spelled out including AAC, protected AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible, Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV audio formats. This can all be played back through the 3.5mm headphone jack and the battery will last, on audio alone, for up to 22 hours.

Other than that there is built in WiFi, the same web browser as the iPhone, an integrated Lithium-Ion battery, support for a slew of different languages, and the run of the mill dock connector. It looks more an more like all, or at least most, of the applications from the iPhone will work on the iPod Touch as well, even though the iPod Touch only comes with the web browser, the iTunes WiFi store, calendar, and a few other little things, but like I said, most of the iPhone apps should work. Don’t forget to check back to get the latest news and info as we get it. The iPod Touch will be available soon, and is up for pre-order now at $299 for the 8GB version and $399 for the 16GB version.
