Fan-made iPod Touch video gets picked for TV primetime

We’ve all heard the stories about big companies stealing concepts for their adverts, but sometimes things really do work out okay for the little guy. Eighteen-year-old student Nick Haley liked the iPod Touch so much that he crafted his own video advert for it, from recycled video clips and the track “Music is my Hot, Hot Sex”by CSS, and uploaded it to YouTube, whereupon it was promptly spotted by Apple’s own marketing team.
Nick’s original advert:
Apple arranged for their advertising agency, TBWA/Chiat/Day, to work with Haley to polish up his advert for TV broadcast, and it’ll be shown both in primetime American slot as well as in Europe and Japan. Supposedly the polish amounted to refilming the video in high-definition and tightening up the editing, as they agency liked the “youthful fun” of the original.
No word on what - if anything - Apple paid Nick for his creative input, but the UK-based student did manage to score a free trip to Los Angeles out of the deal.
