Every year Apple has made a special back to school program available for students heading back to school. Last year they made the offers only available to college students and this year rumors are circulating that they might include a free 8GB touch with a Mac purchase.

Macrumors states:

“According to our sources, Apple will be offering a free 8GB iPod Touch ($299) to college students who buy a qualifying Mac (MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac, Mac Pro). Alternatively, students may choose to get an 8GB iPod Nano ($199). The promotion will run from June 3 to September 15th, 2008.”

This seems very likely because Apple is trying to push the mobile OS X system into users hands. With more people with iPod Touches and iPhones the developers using the SDK with have a greater audience.
