iPod Touch as Home Automation control project
Posted on December 10th, 2007 in Home Automation, iPod Touch |
As you might have guessed, we’re big fans here at Apple-Touch of using Cupertino’s slinkiest iPod as a multi-function remote control. Well, UK-based Linux programmer killswtch seems to have similar ambitions for his own Touch, seeing it as the centrepiece of a home automation system that encompasses distributed media, lighting, CCTV security and occupancy tracking.

Looks like it’s relatively early days, although the MythTV media centre is installed and plans look pretty advanced for setting up the sensors in each room through a Netiom-xAP IP-bridge, but if you’re interested in using the iPod Touch for more than just audio and video (and the occasional web browsing session) then it’s one to bookmark.

What about xPL, open source glue for binding devices together…
Hi
I am involved with a new project called “the BARGE Project” this will be a demonstration home built on a barge at Vancouver’s Science World.
The current business plan that has been developed with Science World indicates this home will be seen by between 630,000 and 930,000 visitors in its first six months. See http://www.SAFERhomesociety.com for more details.
The home we are building is meant to be sustainable, green and universal. We are going to need a good system to hook up to the SAFERhome wiring standard that is being applied.
I and my business partner Brad McCannell at Canadian Barrier Free Design http://www.barrierfreedesign.ca will be in Vegas for the CES show this January. If you or your representatives are there I would appreciate getting together for a chat to see if this venue would be of interest to you. I am also looking a couple of tickets to the show if you still have any kicking around.
