iPod Touch microphone schematic & parts list
Posted on December 13th, 2007 in DIY, VOIP, hack, iPod Touch, iPod Touch Accessories |
If you’ve been keeping up with the VoIP and audio-recording developments for the iPod Touch, you might be wondering how to get your hands on a microphone-blessed adaptor. The original plan was that those interested would send the widget’s creators the necessary parts (and perhaps a small beer donation) and have their completed microphone posted back; unfortunately it looks like demand far exceeded their supply potential and so plan B has been hatched: making the schematic and parts-list available so that you can build your own.

Now I still bear the scars from some ill-advised teenage soldering, but if you’re even a little bit handy with your electronics they’re promising it’s an easy design to follow. In fact, they’re putting together multiple parts-lists so that you can choose the one for the store nearest you.

Obviously, if you make a microphone for your iPod Touch, send us a picture of it - and anybody enjoying the mods, consider throwing a few bucks the VoIP-team’s way; they’re currently spending all their time trying to tackle the low-volume input issue, which if solved might mean there’d be no need for a pre-amp.

I personally think that they should expand their foresight and give whatever object that connects to the iPod increased wifi range, stereo Bluetooth capabilities, more(thin) batteries and a sensitive solar cell made out of powerfilm weather proof series, with a custom spectral absorption based on high traffic indoor use and spectral emission of the salient light bulbs. It should also have another 30-pin female on the bottom with a chip that can make sense of all the electrical signals colliding.
can anyone tell if and how to make this mic work on a 5th gen. 30gb ipod video?
my email is kendall.rosado@gmail.com
for some reason the tuchmods page isnt loading for me. can someone mail me a screenshot of it or something. that would help. thanx
I wish there was an easier choice for this.
It’s worth adding that if your iPod refuses to go into Disk Mode and you hear a noticeable clicking sound the problem might just be corrosion on the HDD cable and will need cleaned periodically.

I’ve never given this a try, but I think it’s about time I do.
I have the wiring diagram ~ but wonder ~
? is the mike ground NOT on the “sleeve” of
the four wire plug?? (customarily the sleeve
is always the GROUND connection on plugs)
please send me a reply ~ TNX

Hi there,
I realize there are plenty of mics on the market right now and this post is a couple of years old, but where can I find the instructions for building a mic that attaches to the dock connector?
this is a great find - “Now I still bear the scars from some ill-advised teenage soldering, but if you’re even a little bit handy with your electronics they’re promising it’s an easy design to follow. “
My cousin would appreciate this website. We were not too long ago speaking about this. hehe
