So there have been rumors going around of Apple releasing a new PDA, or more specifically, a new version of the Newton. This rumored PDA would be based on the same design, multi-touch technology, and more or less platform of the iPhone and iPod Touch.

If this happens that would mean that Apple is going to be spreading their precious multi-touch technology around like its their manifest destiny. As such, one is led to speculate what could be next, like maybe a MacBook Touch.

Apple has been doing lots of work with new patents finding ways to save space but still provide the same functionality as before, plus new developments in the multi-touch LCD world have made the technology far more scalable than screens of just a few inches. So Apple could theoretically come out with that MacBook Touch or Mac Tablet, or iTablet that everyone has been wanting from the company.

Microsoft has pretty much monopolized the tablet computing market, but I think that if Apple were to release a MacBook Touch, they could take a chunk of that market share away. Especially if they integrated their gestures system into the MacBook Touch, that would definitely make the Apple MacBook Touch more user friendly, and a lot more enjoyable to use.

I have had limited experience with a couple different tablets, and I must say, the experience has been abysmal at best. The two that I toiled with both had the soft, gel-like screen of a standard LCD which offered no protection, and they both required you to use some stupid “pen” utensil to do anything. If the MacBook Touch came out, it might have a “pen” or stylus to write with, but it would probably also have the same medical-grade glass covering and you would be able to use your fingers for things that didn’t require you to write.

In the end, I think the MacBook Touch would be an amazing and great device, especially with Apple’s partnership with Intel, and Intel’s new WiMax chips, their low power, high speed ULV line of processors to keep the battery long lasting and light, and to make connectivity on the go easier. A MacBook Touch would definitely be a great next device for Apple if they were to implement the same platform as the iPod Touch and iPhone into it.
