You may be top of the class with your iPod Touch, lording it over all the no-name alternatives out there, but if the battery dies then you’re left with a slender slab of Apple-branded uselessness.  So if you’ve a habit of pushing things as far as recharging goes, you may be pleased to hear that Mophie are bringing out a combination iPod Touch case and external battery called the Juice Pack in January 2008.

The soft-touch, non-slip body hides a built-in lithium-ion battery pack that can supposedly double the player’s run-time; for their iPhone variant Mophie are claiming an additional 6 hours of internet use, 7 hours of video playback and 24 hours of audio playback (as well as extra talk and standby time), and those figures should be pretty similar for the Touch.

Mophie supply the Juice Pack freshly charged, meaning no impatient waiting when all you want to do is try it out, and it recharges via a standard 30-pin Apple dock connector so you can use the same charger as comes with the iPod Touch itself.  There’s a useful 4-LED battery meter on the back to check status on the move.

The iPhone version (on sale mid-December) is priced at $99.95, so it’s far to assume the Touch version will be the same or similar.
