Ever since the introduction of the very popular iPhone and later the iPod Touch Apple has been rumored to be shoving Multi-Touch into all of their consumer line products. An application submitted to the US Patent and Trademark Office recently suggests that future click wheel iPods may use illuminated wheels.

The technology involves lights placed beneath the surface of a pad, which illuminate in different ways as users pass their fingers over the top. This is also showed with two contact points which suggests Multi-Touch tracking.

When the user places their finger on the click wheel it will illuminate in a comment like shape. Although the patents show a click wheel it also states that this is not only for click wheels and can be used on future track pads on their notebooks. To check out all of the patent photos click here.
