Quake 3 not coming to iPod Touch, it was just a test…

After all of the buzz last week about the two iPod Touches playing Quake 3 over a network, the game developer HermitWorks ported Quake 3 to the iPod Touch in “8 to 12″ hours. However it was only done to see if the game engine would work on Apple’s touch devices. The engine used in Quake 3 is the same used in their game, Space Trader.

They have no plans to release Quake 3 due to copyright concerns and only plan on releasing their own game “Space Trader” in June along with the release of the iTunes App store.
Space Trader is a similar FPS game that will allow users access to the accelerometer and touch screen much like they way they got Quake 3 to use it. If all goes well and they use the SDK they said they plan to make the games be available for purchase in late June to early August.
