GUI for iPod Touch 1.1.2 firmware Jailbreak released

Posted on November 12th, 2007 in firmware, hack, iPhone, iPod Touch, jailbreak | 5 Comments »

We had a proof-of-concept within what seemed like seconds of Apple releasing the v1.1.2 firmware update (it hadn’t even got to iTunes yet) but it’s taken the weekend for a working Jailbreak of the latest iPod Touch software to hit the virtual shelves.  conceited software have put together a GUI for the whole process - which could require you to downgrade your PMP to v1.1.1 if you either upgraded yourself or bought an iPod Touch with the up-to-date version installed - that apparently takes around ten minutes to render your device amenable to third-party software.

GBA emulator for iPod Touch

Posted on November 12th, 2007 in hack, iPhone, iPod Touch, third-party software | 2 Comments »

Emulation gaming has taken off massively, with more and more people relegating the graphics-laden titles of today in favour of the insanely addictive gameplay of retro classics.  One of the more popular platforms seems to be Nintendo, and as of today the excellent gpSP emulator - which allows you to play GameBoy Advance games on other hardware - has been ported to the iPod Touch and iPhone.  gpSPhone, as the software is called, is in its early days when it comes to compatibility, but it’s yet another example of the avid homebrew community taking on the advanced Apple hardware.

Seeqpod On iPod touch and iPhone

Posted on November 9th, 2007 in Apple, firmware, hack, jailbreak, third-party software | 7 Comments »

Seeqpod is by far the coolest and most useful web application usable by Safari on both the iPod touch and iPhone. Seeqpod is an application that lists music by popular searches from open web servers it finds. Not sure about the legality of this, but it’s definitely a great web application.

Seeqpod

The application lets you search for artists or tracks of your choice, or will let you chose from popular artists and playlists. The popular artists section gives a nice current list of artists, most of them you will know who they are.

iPod Touch Jailbreak fix already found for 1.1.2 firmware

Posted on November 9th, 2007 in Apple, firmware, hack, iPod Touch, jailbreak | 5 Comments »

Catching, well, just about everyone by surprise, it’s taken less than 24hrs for hackers to break the v1.1.2 firmware that Apple released for the iPod Touch.  Although no guide or software has been released yet, what we do have is the following screenshot of a Touch running the latest Cupertino update; in order to get it, the owner would have had to install a screen-grab app.

Hah! Apple, Conceited has beat you to the release of another great piece of software, internet radio for your iPhone or iPod Touch. It works great on the iPod Touch with a WiFi connection, and reports are it works well with the iPhone’s EDGE connection as well.

iradio

(Thanks Ken Allen!)

The streams are MPEG streams, but hey, it’s a step in the right direction. It starts fast, works fast, sounds good, and will continue playing even when the iDevice locks, just like the iPod app.

Stacked application launcher now available on Installer.app

Posted on November 6th, 2007 in hack, iPhone, iPod Touch | No Comments »

Good news if you liked the look of the iPod Touch “Stack” launcher which we covered last month, but didn’t fancy going through the in-depth manual install process yourself: it’s now available as part of the Installer.app software management program.  As long as you’re running firmware version 1.1.1 it should simply be a case of choosing “Install Stack”, restarting your iPod Touch (or iPhone) and then playing with the lovely new fanned menu.

Posted on October 30th, 2007 in Apple, DIY, hack, iPhone, iPod Touch, jailbreak, third-party software | 6 Comments »

So let’s say you wanted to JailBreak your iPhone or iPod Touch over the past few weeks since the release of the first 1.1.1 JailBreak. It was a fairly lengthy process, and depending on when you got up the nerve to try it, required a decent chunk of time on the command line interface.

Well now its as easy as navigating, on a wifi connection, and in Safari, to jailbreakme.com and clicking “Install AppSnapp” at the bottom. That’s it, no PC required; it makes use of the TIFF exploit and then goes to work.
