Apple will launch low-cost WiFi, MultiTouch iPods, says analyst

Encouraging investors to buy Apple shares, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster outlined his own vision of how the Cupertino company’s iPod might evolve, highlighting the double-whammy of WiFi and MultiTouch as key leverage in the market.  Munster believes Apple’s intent is to steer the iPod line toward “mobile computing and Internet-connected portable devices”, maintaining Apple’s 70-percent share of the PMP market particularly through replacement purchases, as well as reducing overall cost of the units and maintaining its all-important dollar share.

iPod Touch VoIP compatible with 25 providers; improved mic on way

Looks like the SIP-VoIP team over at touchmods.net have been busy.  Last we heard, v.1 of the software that allows the iPod Touch to be used as a VoIP phone via its WiFi connection had launched, and the guys were busy putting together microphone schematics and parts lists.  Now, there’s a pretty healthy list of 25 compatible SIP-based VoIP services - including the popular Gizmo Project and Asterisk - and they’ve just sold out of their first batch of 1200 microphone adaptors, priced at $45 a pop.

JiWire announced iPod Touch Users Will have First Ever Ad-Supported Free Wi-Fi Access

Another Magazine Reader For iPod Touch

Well, today a company called Texterity has now released version 1.0 of their magazine browsing software. This came after the realization of how popular the iPhone and iPod Touch have become.

While the iPod Touch/iPhone Dev Team are kept busy working on Jailbreaking and unlocking whichever firmware version Apple are choosing to release, that leaves other hack-happy individuals thinking of all the useful things they can do with their newly-liberated devices.  Over at Hack In The Box they’re looking at the iPod Touch’s potential as a network management tool; well, actually they’re setting the PMP up as the perfect, discrete hacking platform, but we’ll err on the side of legal caution and consider the whole thing a legitimate WiFi analysis device.

Time Gideon of PC Magazine names the Touch as the clear frontrunner in the flash player division

Recently Tim Gideon Of PC Magazine rated the iPod Touch “The clear frontrunner in the flash player division”. After many companies have now started to stray away from the hard drive based player to a flash based memory player. He feels the Touch makes the best of this situation His made his decision after getting to use many of the leading flash players.

The main reason he gave it this title was the elegance of the device. He stated it was beautiful with the glass front to all of the features of the device itself. He also likes how it offers the top storage of any flash player currently in the market with 16 GB, and how apple takes all of this info and puts it into the design of their devices.

To do this, navigate to http://mike.home.tl/iphone using Safari on your iPod. This will install a new app source into the Installer.app. Or you can run Installer and add this url to the sources tab. This will make “Firefly” appear on the list of installable objects. Now install and run Firefly (give it about 5-10 minutes to build your database). The length of this will depend on the amount of songs in your library.
